Learn to estimate and optimize your computing resource needs

Incorrectly gauging the resources needed for your task can have a negative effect on your research team's endeavours. Requesting excessive resources needlessly reduces the priority of their upcoming tasks, while requesting too few may lead to incomplete execution.

In this workshop, we will present guidelines to help you estimate the required storage space, RAM, CPU time, and GPU time based on the task you wish to execute. You will learn about resource optimization methods, including task parallelization and data parallelization.

Plan:

  • Choosing the right resources
  • Storage spaces and active data management;
  • Analysis of jobs;
  • Job arrays and data parallelism.
