SFU course "Large-scale and remote visualization" [online]
Date: 23 May 2024 @ 17:00 - 19:00
RegisterIn this more advanced course you will learn remote and large-scale visualization using ParaView. We will start with an interactive client-server setup in which you run a parallel data-processing and rendering ParaView server on an HPC cluster and connect to it from a ParaView client on your computer. This setup lets you easily visualize very large (multi-GB and potentially TB-size) datasets interactively and remotely, without having to download them to your computer, and without worrying about not having sufficient memory and CPU/GPU power to visualize these data. We will try workflows with both time and camera animation. We will then save this interactive visualization setup as a script and will run it remotely via a batch job on the cluster, doing all rendering off-screen (without opening any windows) into files to combine into an animation. We will also discuss optimizing datasets for parallel I/O and the resources you need to scale these workflows to very large datasets. For more details, the list of prerequisites, and the software setup please visit the registration page.
